Choosing Your Electricity Provider
The Open Electricity Market is an initiative by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) that allows you to enjoy more choices and flexibility when buying electricity. You can benefit from competitive pricing and innovative offers from retailers.
With the Open Electricity Market, you can choose to buy electricity from:
- SP Group at the regulated tariff (no action is required if you choose this option).
- An electricity retailer at a price plan that best meets your needs.
- The wholesale electricity market at half-hourly wholesale electricity prices through SP Group.
It is not compulsory for you to switch to a retailer and there is also no deadline to switching.
Regardless of who you buy your electricity from, your electricity supply will stay the same. This is because SP Group will continue to operate the national power grid and deliver electricity to everyone.
Price of Electricity
Who to buy from
Depends on retail electricity package offered by retailers
For those with an average monthly consumption of at least 2,000 kWh, you can buy electricity from any licensed retailers.
For those with an average monthly consumption not exceeding 2,000kWh, you can buy electricity from retailers participating in the Open Electricity Market .
Wholesale Electricity Market
Half-hourly wholesale electricity prices*
*This purchase option is riskier as the electricity price is uncertain and potentially volatile. The wholesale electricity price fluctuates every half-hourly, depending on market demand and supply conditions.
