Choosing Your Electricity Provider
Starting 1 November 2018, Open Electricity Market will be extended to consumers across Singapore by zones. Check out the rollout schedule to find out when you can make the switch!
Businesses with an average monthly consumption of at least 2,000 kWh (at least $400 in monthly electricity bill) are also eligible to choose their electricity provider (i.e. become contestable).
You can check if your business is eligible here.
With Open Electricity Market, you can choose to buy electricity from:
- [Existing] SP Group at the regulated tariff. No action is required if you choose this option.
- [New] An electricity retailer at a price plan that best meets their needs.
- [New] The wholesale electricity market at half-hourly wholesale electricity prices through SP Group.
It is not compulsory for you to switch to a retailer or buy from the wholesale electricity market. You can continue to buy electricity from SP Group at the regulated tariff. Consumers who decide not to switch are termed as non-contestable consumers.
Your electricity supply will remain the same regardless of your choice of electricity retailer, as SP Group will continue to operate the national power grid to supply electricity to all consumers.
