Contract Expiry and Renewal

Here’s what you need to know about your contract when it’s automatically renewed: 

• The renewed electricity rate will be lower than the prevailing regulated tariff at the point of contract renewal. 

• Contractual terms (e.g. security deposit, early termination charges, late payment fee) will be the same or better than your existing contract. 

• All other terms and conditions of the renewed contract will remain unchanged. 

• No early termination fee within the first 30 days of auto-renewal. For example, if the date of your auto-renewal is on 1 Jan 2025, you have until 30 Jan 2025 to terminate without incurring any early termination charges. 

From 19 June 2026, all electricity retailers will be required to:   

• Remind residential consumers twice about the upcoming auto-renewal of their electricity contract, an increase from the one notification currently. The first notification must be sent at least 10 business days before contract expiry, and the second notification must be sent within three calendar days before or on the day of the auto-renewal.  
• Notify residential consumers of the upcoming contract renewal via at least two different modes of communication. The two modes must include both mail communication (e.g. email or postal mail) and mobile communication (e.g. SMS, WhatsApp message or notification via the retailer’s app).   
• Waive any early termination fee for residential consumers in the first 60 days after any electricity contract is auto-renewed, up from the current 30-day window. For example, if the date of your auto-renewal is on 1 July 2026, you have until 29 August 2026 to terminate without incurring any early termination charges.   
• Retailers will still be required to provide an electricity rate that is lower than the prevailing Regulated Tariff at the point of contract renewal.  

If you do not wish to have your contract automatically renewed, do inform your retailer by the deadline stated in the notification. Otherwise, the contract will be automatically renewed when it expires. Please also check with your retailer for any applicable fees.
